Obituary for Helen R. Anderson

Helen (Roll) Anderson of Pine Run Retirement Community, formerly of Haycock Township, PA, passed away on July 3, 2018 at home with members of her family by her side. She was 98.

Her loving husband of 60 years, A. Eugene Anderson preceded her in death in 2003. She was the only daughter of parents Joseph C. Roll and Aina (Armstrong) Roll.

Helen was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 1, 1919. She met her husband, Gene, in New York City, where she taught ballroom dancing. They raised five children – Sandy Kaplan or Oregon, Mark Anderson of Pennsylvania, Carol Anderson of Pennsylvania, Krista Anderson of Illinois and Judy Bigelow of New York. She has 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Helen loved animals. She and her family had dogs, cats and one horse on the “gentleman's farm” in Haycock Township of Bucks County. As part of her lifelong love for pets, she supported groups dedicated to humane treatment of animals.

Known for her kindness and wonderful sense of humor, Helen was a popular figure at the Pine Run Retirement Community. She continued her dancing and exercise programs while also enjoying her card games. A skillful bridge player, her friends attested to the fact that she was still playing with a full deck even at age 98.

Helen was an avid traveler and made several trips to Europe, Australia and New Zealand. She also went on cruises to Alaska and Bermuda.

A memorial service will be held at Pine Run Retirement Community, 777 Ferry Road, Doylestown, PA 18901 on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 1:30 PM.

In the fall her family will hold a private memorial service at the old homestead.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to local animal shelters or to the Parvee Foundation of Doylestown Hospital.
